Christ Church Family Update – Week of Sunday, April 5 (Holy Week)

Dear Christ Church Family,

But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. —John 20:31

Holy Week has long been my favorite time of the year. I know some folks may prefer Christmas, but to me, nothing compares to this week. We begin with cries of “Hosanna,” and culminate with shouts of “He Is Risen!” And in between, we follow Jesus anew on his journey throughout the final week of his earthly life and ministry. We hear and see the passion in the words and deeds of our Lord, who knew the hour of his saving death was drawing nigh. We feel his healing hands upon our filthy feet. We taste our tears as we taste His broken body. We receive His blood, willingly and lovingly poured out for us in His death, so that we may have His life. We humbly bow before the Cross in the darkness of Friday. We anxiously wait in the hope of Holy Saturday. We eagerly rise with the sun and the Savior on Resurrection Sunday! Hallelujah! He Is Alive!

I pray you will join us as we gather online this Holy Week.

Maundy Thursda Image

Maundy Thursday

Our Maundy Thursday worship service is this Thursday, April 9 at 7pm CT. My family and I would like to invite our entire Christ Church family to gather around our table via livestream as we remember and celebrate that very first Lord’s Supper. We will worship in song and let the scriptures share the story of what transpired that night when the disciples were gathered around the table of the Lord.

Communion and Foot-washing. We will share in Communion together, so please make ready whatever elements you may have on hand for our time together that evening. Please feel free to make use of anything you may have in your home in the place of the grape juice and the bread. We will consecrate our elements together that night and know the Lord will unite us in them – even remotely! We will also have a time for foot washing. Please have a basin with water and a towel available for that evening, even if you are by yourself in your home. I will explain more fully when we gather on Thursday, but for now, let us all prepare ourselves as we expect the Lord to meet with us that night.

Good Friday

Good Friday

Our Good Friday service is this Friday, April 10 at 7pm CT. We will gather via livestream and hear the Lord speak through various voices from within our church family as we humble our hearts and meditate upon the crucifixion of Christ.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday

Our Easter Sunday worship service is this Sunday, April 12 at 10:30am CT. Please join us via livestream as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. No matter what trials or challenges we may face, He Is Risen!

If you are not already doing so, I would also encourage you to journey through the events of this week, day by day, as scripture presents them. My suggestion is to choose one of the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, or Luke). Pick up with that writer’s version of the event we know as Palm Sunday and make your way through this week to the resurrection story. (Begin in Matthew 21, Mark 11, or Luke 19.) Additionally, you may wish to accompany your reading with the Gospel of John, beginning with John 12, for an even greater experience of all this week signifies.

While this Holy Week is certainly different than any we have known before, be assured it is no less holy. Let us seek the Lord with our whole hearts and trust in Him for all He has in store for us in these days. His faithfulness, His forgiveness, His love, and His peace are as sure today as ever. Yes, this Holy Week is different, but let us know and believe Christ is alive and present with us as He leads us through it! Praise God!

See you soon, my friends…

In the Grace & Peace of Christ,

Ben Anderson

Senior Pastor
