Joyce was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She joined the Christ Church staff as Director of Children's Ministries in August of 2004. Joyce is a graduate of Shepherd University and holds a bachelor's degree in Education. She has served in the area of children's ministry for over thirty years and is a published author of children's curriculum.

Joyce is the founder and president of "Friends in Deed, Inc.", a non-profit organization established to assist the senior citizen community with the many challenges with the aging process.

She also serves on the board of directors for The Caring Voice Coalition.
