Drug Uses
Synthroid is used for treatment of low thyroid activity and treating or suppressing various types of goiters. It is also used with surgery and other drugs for managing certain types of thyroid cancer.
How Taken
Take Synthroid as prescribed by your physician. Take Synthroid on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two to 3 hours after a meal. It is advised that you use your dose one hour before first meal unless otherwise pre-scripted by your doctor. Use Synthroid with about 250cc of water. This pill works best if it is taken at the same time each day. It can take a month before you notice an improvement in your symptoms. This pill will usually have to be taken for life, except in the cases of temporary low thyroid activity associated with thyroid inflammation and in patients who are taking Synthroid on a trial basis. For children or patients who cannot swallow whole tablets- Crush the pill and blend in 1 or 2 teaspoons of clear water, and give using a spoon or dropper as soon as possible after preparation. Don't store the mixture for later use. Don't mix crushed pills in soybean infant formula.
