Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other conditions as prescribed by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Carafate as prescribed by your doctor. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Don't take Carafate at the same time as other medicines. Use Carafate at least two hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been advised. Don't take less or more or use it more often than suggested by your physician.
