"Exercise daily in God - no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever." I Tim 4:7-8 from The Message.
Linda Wafer Our new journey started on April 5th, 2005, the day my daughter, Teangela, went home to be with the Lord. She was 27 years old and fighting the biggest battle of her life with heart disease. I don’t believe she lost that battle, I believe she now has her crown from the Lord. She was a fine young woman in every way and she lived each day as if it was her last. She was a great joy to us and I believe she crossed over to be with the Lord with a smile on her face as she always had for everyone who came in contact with her. When she died, Al and I had a lot of time to think about ourselves and what we were going to do with the rest of our lives. We were both out of shape and our lives were miserable. We began to ponder what we could do to honor the memory of our daughter and also help ourselves. One day, we were at the store and one of my husband’s friends said that he was going to a church with a great gym that was a great price for a family. So the next day, Al and I went to Christ Church, where we met Scott Hord. He showed us the facility and what they could offer us. He gave us a tour of the gym and we were happy with what we saw and that it was affordable! An added bonus is that the Hardwick Activity Center is only a hop, skip and a jump from our home. Al and I needed to make a change in our lives, both physically and mentally. We believed that God would make a way in our finances and He did! We joined the Hardwick Activity Center on February 6, 2007. We usually work out about 1 ½ hours per day, 5 days a week. My husband is a diabetic and I have high blood pressure, so we talked to our doctor about the program and he thought it was a grand idea. Since we started this journey, I have lost 93 pounds and Al has lost 68 pounds! We have also met some wonderful people like Ms. Doris (who always greets us with a smile), Scott, PJ, Jay and so many others who have encouraged our lives so much. God has blessed us very much. We have a wonderful church home at St. James Baptist Church with Pastor George Brooks. I feel like Christ Church is a second church home to us because of the relationship we have with the gym and various people. We thank God for Christ Church and its staff for a job well done in making us feel at home and worthy to be there. Our families are proud of us, but we take no credit for anything except knowing that God can make a way for anyone who believes. We owe him all the honor, glory and praise. He is worthy to be praised may God bless Christ Church and each of family that attends there.
